What are the pieces involved in a successful program? Identify your audience Assess their need(s) Plan your strategy Consider your resources Create a timeline Delegate responsibilities Advertise Request regular progress reports Have the program Assess the outcome

Identify your audience House Hall Cabinet Council Student Organization Campus Community

Assess their need(s) Ask for input from the audience in a meeting Take an interest survey Use aggregate data from Map-Works results

Plan your strategy Hold a brainstorming session Be creative Make a list for discussion Don’t discard any ideas before consideration

Consider resources and fit Does our plan meet the need of our audience? How will we assess our success? Time Funding Workers Location Supplies Technical/ Maintenance support

Create a timeline Set the date(s) Organize committees Reserve the location Invite the speaker, book the entertainer, etc. Arrange for refreshments Advertise, advertise, advertise Schedule helpers/workers/volunteers

Delegate responsibilities Who’s in charge for final decisions? Who will advertise? Who will recruit and organize help? Who will handle technical support duties? Who will take care of refreshments? Who will decorate/build/arrange? Who will facilitate activities, lead work crews, etc.? Who will tear down, clean up, put away?

Advertise! Good publicity requires Time Effort Money Creativity 15% of your budgeted time, money, and effort should be spent on advertising!

Request regular progress reports Hold regular subcommittee meetings for each task group Schedule regular full group meetings for reports and problem-solving Create separate work times if necessary to complete tasks Have a follow-up meeting to discuss how everything went

Have the program

Assess the outcome Attendance is not the only indicator of success. Request feedback from participants! Have a form for them to fill out at the end Hold a focus group Discuss the program among your group members or with your residents to get their perspectives.
