GENERAL INFORMATION

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS All students must earn 26 credits to graduate. Credits Grade Level 0-6.5 Freshman 7-13.5 Sophomore 14-18.5 Junior 19+ Senior

CREDITS Students will have the opportunity to earn 8 credits per year Students are given the opportunity to earn a total of 32 credits.

ATTENDANCE Students are can accumulate 9 absences per class per semester before loss of credit occurs. Students are responsible for clearing those absences with their assistant principal. Students will have to attend after school sessions in order to regain credit.

PARENT COMMUNICATION Parents are encouraged to contact their student’s teachers at any time with regard to grades, progress, behavior, and any other concerns. Teachers can be contacted via email (on Skyward) or the CHS website. Teachers can also be contacted by telephone.

04/15/08 04/15/08 CLUBS High School will provide an opportunity for involvement in many clubs and organizations. We highly encourage participation in extracurricular activities. A list of clubs and organizations can be found on CHS website. 9

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Athletics – Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Track, Swim, Golf, Tennis, Cross Country, Baseball & Softball Cheerleading and Drill Team – determined by try- outs in the spring. Fine Arts – Band, Choir, Theatre Other activities include class officers, club officers, Academic UIL, Student Council, Key Club, NHS, FFA, HOSA, etc…

Foundation High School Graduation Program (House Bill 5)

Foundation High School Graduation Program - HB5 HB5 is the graduation plan for every student entering grade 9 on or after the 2014-2015 school year. Flexible Allows students to pursue interests Career oriented Gives students choices - Students are required to choose an endorsement, develop a personal graduation plan, and successfully complete a minimum of 26 credits.

FIVE ENDORSEMENTS S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Business and Industry Public Services Arts and Humanities Multidisciplinary *A student is not locked into an endorsement they choose in the 8th grade - It can be changed with a meeting to modify the PGP with the parent, student, and counselor.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses related to STEM (Engineering) Computer Science Mathematics Science Combination of no more than two of the categories listed above.

Business and Industry: Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (horticulture, animal sci., and mech. pathways) Architecture and Construction (construction tech, electrical tech, architecture design) Arts, Audio/Video Technology & Communications (a/v production, animation, graphic design) Business Management (business information management, business law, entrepreneurship) Finance (money matters, accounting 1 & 2, statistics and business decision making) Hospitality (culinary arts) Information Technology (computer maintenance, programming, and networking) Manufacturing (Principles of Manufacturing, Flexible Manufacturing) Transportation, Distribution, & Logistics (auto mechanics) English electives in public speaking, debate, advanced broadcast journalism, advanced journalism including newspaper and yearbook

Public Service Public Service Endorsement: Education and Training (instructional practices / practicum in education & training) Law Enforcement (principles of law enforcement and public safety, law enforcement 1) Human Services (child development, counseling and mental health, nutrition and wellness cosmetology, fashion design ) Health Science (hospital rotations, certified nurse aide (CNA), pharmacy tech, med terms, anatomy and physiology)

Arts and Humanities One of the following: 2 levels each in two languages other than English (LOTE) 4 levels in the same language other than English (LOTE) Courses from one or two areas in fine arts English electives not included in the Business and Industry Endorsement Social Studies

Multidisciplinary Studies • 4 advanced courses from other endorsement areas • 4 credits in each foundation subject area, including English IV and chemistry and/or physics • 4 credits in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or dual credit selected from English, mathematics, science, social studies, economics, LOTE or fine arts

PERSONAL GRADUATION PLAN (PGP) A PGP is a road map for your child’s 4 year high school career. -Required by HB5 -Completed in 8th grade -Student must choose an endorsement, complete the PGP, and have parent sign it. -Students can change it!

DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT (DLA) To position students with the most options, all CHS students begin on the Distinguished Level of Achievement plan. Requirements include: Complete the foundation graduation program requirements with at least one endorsement, complete 4 credits in math including algebra 2, and complete 4 credits in Science. To be eligible for the state’s Top 10% Automatic Admission to colleges and universities, students must complete the DLA.

PERFORMANCE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Dual Credit – 12 academic hours, earning a GPA of 3.0 or above Bilingualism – Complete all ELA requirements earning 3.0 or above, or 3 credits in the same language with 80 or above, or 3 or higher on an AP exam for language other than English Bilingualism & Biliteracy – Any of above requirements, and exited from ESL program and scored advanced high on TELPAS AP Scores – A score of 3 or above on Advanced Placement (AP) exam PSAT/SAT/ACT Scores – PSAT score that qualifies as a commended scholar or high, or achieving at least 2 of the 4 subject tests on the ACT-PLAN, or 1250 or higher on the SAT, 28 or higher on ACT

PERFORMANCE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Nationally or Internationally Recognized certification – Recognized business or industry license: COMP TIA A+ NETWORK + Certified Nurse Aide CNA Pharmacy Technician Sterile Products I.V. Cosmetology Operator License Veterinarian Tech Quickbooks Intuit Certification AAFCS Pre-professional Certification in Education Fundamentals

COURSE REGISTRATION

CHOOSING CLASSES Students have been thinking about their course selections in their Career Explorations course and have created a 4 year plan in this course. Please review these courses with your student and make sure they are in line with your student’s interests. Students will still need to formally pick classes by filling out the 9th grade course selection sheet. High School Counselors will review the choices.

COURSE SELECTIONS A copy of each 8th grade student’s course selections will be mailed home around April 1st. If you are happy with the course selections, then nothing needs to be done. If you wish to change courses, make the desired changes and turn in to your home campus counselor by May 24th. Any change request must be in writing on the choice selection sheet.

REMINDERS & HELPFUL HINTS Your student will choose 8 credit classes. Remember… at least 4 credits of those will be core classes. Parent signature on your PGP is required prior to the date that you meet with the high school counselor. A letter will be mailed listing the courses your student requested. This is not a schedule only the course requests. No course changes after May 24th.
