Cold War Era What defined/characterized the Cold War? How did events in the era reflect cold war tensions?

Cold War Cold War Defined Scope (timeframe, involvement, etc.) How did the atomic bomb, industrialization and United Nations impact the postwar years? What happened in the Yalta/Potsdam Conferences and how did this contribute to the Cold War? What was the policy of containment, Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine? What happened to Germany in the years following the war? Why did Nato develop? How did developments in Asia related to Japan, Korea, and China impact the global balance of power and Cold War?

Interpreting the Origins Soviet/U.S. Views Read documents (Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan & Ponomaryov) pages 244-246 and answer the following questions: What were the Soviet and American perspectives during the Cold War? How did those perceptions shape their policies and actions? Read Gormly’s interpretation (page 260) and answer the following questions: Who/What was responsible for the Cold War? Was the Cold War inevitable?
