Agenda Review Act 4 Character Analysis W/s Posters!! presentations! 

Tuesday, January 31st Materials: Binder, Pen/Pencil, Character Analysis W/s Bellwork: Answer the following questions on the same sheet as the first 3 questions (aside, monologue…) In the opening scene of Act 4 of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the three witches repeat the phrase, “Double, double, toil and trouble”. What do you think this means? How does this effect the story? How does Macbeth interpret the prophecies pronounced by the first three apparitions? Explain how knowledge of the witches’ intent affects the audience’s perception of these prophecies. Explain the dramatic irony of these lines in Scene 3: Lines 4-8 (“Each new morn…”) Line 14 (“He hath not touched you yet.”) Line 180 (“No, they were well at peace when I did leave them.”)

Character analysis Main Character Versus Subordinate character A main character IS SOMEONE AROUND WHICH THE PLOT REVOLVES. IF THE CHARACTER WEREN’T IN THE STORY, IT WOULD BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT. Conflict Internal or external? Motive Why do the characters do what they do? Influences Other characters/situations/background that pushes a character away from or towards their goals.

Posters Choose one of the following characters to create your poster around: Macbeth, lady Macbeth, macduff, the witches, Banquo, malcolm Your Poster must include the following elements: Character name Internal conflict(s) External Conflict(s) Main Motive Influences Relevant Pictures to accompany the character Color!! 
