In the Gospels, an amazing one out of ten verses (288 in all) deal directly with the subject of money. The Bible offers 500 verses on prayer, less than 500 verses on faith, but more than 2,000 verses on money and possessions.” Howard L. Dayton, Jr., Leadership, Vol. 2, no. 2.
Jesus’ Great Commission to disciples: Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matt. 28:18-20 (NIV)
Jesus taught about money or possessions: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt. 6:19-21 (NIV)
Jesus’ Command for Secure Investments: Invest or store up resources for God’s glory and kingdom which truly are safe—not in worldly wealth which is easily destroyed.
Jesus taught about possessions: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matt. 6:24 (NIV)
“Square One” concept about possessions: Our Creator, Sustainer, Sovereign God owns all, controls all, and always has my best interest at heart. I can choose God or money as my master, but not both.
