Membership Requirements Maintain GPA requirement (>85%) No course or clinical clerkship failures Mandatory meetings: 1 general chapter meeting per semester 1 additional meeting per semester Volunteer hours: To be submitted on COSGP TOUCH website. Hours will be checked throughout the semester For OMS-I and OMS-II 10 hours of community service per semester (20 total) For OMS-III and OMS-IV 1 community service event per semester (2 total)
Rules and Regulations Dismissal from SSP Missed Meetings Must contact Samantha Ho, SSP Secretary regarding missing meeting Missing meetings will be considered on a case-by-case basis Dismissal from SSP Three strikes policy Includes: Poor academic performance Missed meeting without prior notification Lack of community service participation For Academic Probation: Meeting with Advisor Dr. McWilliam to discuss ways to maintain GPA
Chapter Goals for 2017-2018 Promote scholarly activities amongst peers Collaborate with GHHS for speakers Increased promotion / awareness of SSP to 1st and 2nd years Develop and provide resources for scholastic and clinical success Improve Service Week Service Month - increased participation from non-SSP members Develop sustainable projects Invite speakers to chapter meetings Alumni Panel GHHS Faculty
Service Month Will occur in March 2018 Each CHC responsible for its own service project This year to build a more sustainable project Previously, each service week had a theme Joint venture with GHHS
Service Week: Past Projects Phoenix, AZ: Beaufort, SC: - Run for Cancer 5K / 10K - Provided diabetes education lectures with Hilton Head Volunteers in Medicine Brooklyn, NY: - Prepared and served breakfast to homeless at Bowery Mission. Cincinnati, OH: - Assembled care packages to distribute to residents at the Jimmy Heath House, a safe house for recovering addicts Tucson, AZ: - Constructed a community garden in low-income area with Compass Community Housing and Community Food Bank of Southern AZ Seattle,WA: - Assembled Thanksgiving meal baskets for families in need with Seattle YWCA Waikele, HI: - Collected foot and hygiene donations for homeless children with Project Hawaii Washington, DC: - Provided diabetic glucose and foot checks, blood pressure screens, and flu vaccinations at health fair at homeless shelter Chicago, IL: - Pediatric literacy and healthy nutrition event
