Parent Ambassadors: Mission and Vision Setting Mariana Merritt, MSW Coordinator of Family and Community Engagement Pre-K

Individual Reflections…. Why did you apply to be a Parent Ambassador? What did you hope to accomplish (do), change, or improve (make better)? 3 mins Silent write- then large group share

Mission Statement…. Explains the group’s reason for existence Purpose -why do we have this group Describes what it does and what it wants to do Answers what does this group do Tells who the group serves 2 mins

Examples MNPS: We deliver a great public education to every student, every day. TED: Spreading Ideas National Wildlife Federation: Inspiring Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future. CARE: To serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Mayo Clinic: To inspire hope and contribute to health and well-being by providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research 1 min slide. 2 mins silent write. 3 mins small group. 3 mins large group share. 3 min piece together. 12 mins total Write what words/phrases/ideas or sentences answer these questions for you? What should we include? In a small group 3 people share your ideas. Large group- brain storm what words do we need in our mission statement? Draft it together

Individual Reflections…. If you and this group do an excellent job what will happen/what will be true for new families in the future? How will we know we did a good job as Parent Ambassadors? Individual write- you can write in your own language

Vision What is our hope for the future? If we accomplish our mission what will this look like? What will new families experience if we are successful?

Feeding America: A hunger-free America Oxfam: A just world without poverty Save the Children: A world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation Teach for America: One day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.
