Ed Sheeran ‘Give Me Love’ 9 Frame Analysis Ed Sheeran ‘Give Me Love’

Frame 1 This first frame establishes to the audience that a girl is dead lying on a bed but the audience don’t know why or who she is. This gives the audience the impression that this music video has a sad atmosphere. Also, it shows that she is by herself so no one has found her yet which means she could have committed suicide because she feels lonely. The frame is well lit so we can see blood around her head with a wooden object lying next to her, this gives the impression to the audience that this was the weapon that killed her.

Frame 2 This second frame is of the police finding the mysterious girl. There is someone standing over her in a smart trench coat, which shows that they have authority. There is also another figure in the room showing the back of them casts a shadow so that the audience cant see the figure clearly which creates mystery and interest. The room is well lit by the girl on the bed but darkly lit near the other figure in the room.

Frame 3 For the third frame, we see the girl alive for the first time, this could be showing us what the girl went through before she died. This shot is a medium shot showing the girl peering around a wall looking at something/someone. By looking at her facial expression gives the impression that she’s not happy about what she's looking at and that’s she's jealous of what she's looking at.

Frame 4 This fourth frame is a couple having an intimate moment in the street. This links back to what the girl was looking at in the previous frame, this shows that she could be envious of their relationship. The type of frame is shown from the girls POV as it shows her peering round the wall from the previous frame. This shot is also a long frame as we can see what the couple look like and what they’re wearing in the shot.

Frame 5 Frame 5 is of the girl pulling a feather out of her back, this gives the music video a surreal and atmospheric mood as that doesn’t happen in everyday life. The frame shows a close up shot of the girl lifting up a feather covered in her blood which could link to the girl being delicate, blonde and fair. The shot is a close up of the feather with the girl in the background creating a blurred effect. This is effective as the main focus is on the feather but we can also still see the girl and see her reaction towards it.

Frame 6 For frame 6 it shows the girl standing in a street alley wearing angel wings, which creates a euphoric feel to the music video. This links back to the previous frame as we saw her pulling a feather out of her back, which have now grown into angel wings. This also creates a surreal and unimaginable feeling for the audience as they don’t expect this to be the outcome for the music video, as we saw her dead at the beginning.

Frame 7 Frame 7 is a shot of the girl holding an arrow and she's aiming at someone/something. This relates back to her being an angel as we relate wings and an arrow to a angel. The shot is a medium shot showing her aiming at something to strike.

Frame 8 This next frame relates back to the previous frame as it links to what the girl was aiming at when she was holding the arrow out of the door. In frame 8 it shows a man being striked by the arrow and he then starts talking to the woman opposite him. This links to the girl striking the man as she's striking them with love so it makes people attracted to the opposite sex near them. This shot is a long shot and the lighting is interesting as the only light in the shot is underneath the woman but you can also see the light shining onto the man, this could relate to the love she is striking into the man. This also relates to the song title ‘Give Me Love’, as she's giving her love to everyone.

Frame 9 For the last frame we find out who the mysterious figure was at the beginning, which was one of the police officers who found the girl. This frame shows the girls wings and arrow disappear and her waking up. The shot is of her POV, as she's opening her eyes we see the police officer who found her, watching her. This shows that after striking everyone with her love she finally found love of her own.
