Making Managers Into Leaders Obstacles that hold organizations back Resistance to change Fear & eroding trust People stuck in “the way they have always done it.” Low morale, poor attitude, low motivation. People on the “blame train.” Lack of commitment & ownership

Building the Bridge: Manager to Leader Create a buy-in for change Change is the only certainty we have. We must master the art of change. Drive out fear & build trust Create work environments that promote trust & open & honest communication. Trust is an essential ingredient to a healthy organization.

Lift the attitudes of your people Attitudes can be changed but it requires mindset shifts for some people. Support the choice for self responsibility You must get people to take responsibility for themselves. Instead of blaming everyone & everything for what goes wrong. They can take responsibility & use each set back as an opportunity for advancement.

Unleash people’s energy, creativity, & spirit Promote positive attitudes and effective communication channels. Get back to the basics. Care about people. Make satisfaction & fulfillment the rule. Instill continuous improvement as a way of life. Take care of the people issues. Help people make a shift toward continuous improvement.

Leading Conversations The heart of leadership is everyday communication. Leadership happens in & around dozens of conversations, long & short, that occur throughout the day. One time vision statements are not effective. Leaders must reinforce & reshape their vision & strategy daily.

Leadership is About Hope Leadership is about action & meaning. Leading conversations spur action & give meaning & purpose to people & events. Leading conversations focus people on important activities. Killers of leading conversations are cynicism, blame, & inaction.

Cause & Effect Leading conversations guide action & allow people to see how their actions impact success. They allow people to take appropriate action to meet the challenges of the situation, or deal with an unusual circumstance or opportunity. People can see how things work & convey shared meanings & values.

Generativity Generativity is a way of thinking & being which embraces creativity & change as a way of life. This alters the nature of leadership, development, management, communication & results for organizations, Allowing them to fulfill visions that would previously seemed impossible.

Generativity con’t Generativity is an on-going process of creating, implementing & measuring outcomes. It embraces everything that has worked in the past & allows leaders to step into the future. It allows for unprecedented breakthroughs, & develops competencies required to implement that future.
