Movies Poster Project

Most Projects: You need to do AT LEAST 3 full thumbnail sketches before you begin on your final copy. Why do you think I would make you do this?

Onto the movie Poster! What kinds of things are included in movie posters??? Let’s take a look….

Title Starring Movie Producers/Directors A Catch Phrase A Picture Date of Release

Questions to ask yourself: What movies have you heard of or seen posters for recently that you wanted to go and see? What about them appealed to you? What kinds of visual images did they use in the posters?

FIRST! Decide role’s of people in your group. You will need 1) A secretary for the writing on general plot idea 2) Layout Manager: They will make sure the layout is Professional looking in Thumbnail Version 3) Main Picture Artist: For outline only. Everyone WILL have to contribute in the drawing, shading, and coloring of poster 4) Main Text Artist: Will outline the TEXT in poster including Date, Title and Characters 5) Project manager: Will need to be in charge of making sure everyone is filling their roles, as well as helping in the drawing and layout aspects of your project

Brainstorm with your group: If you were going to make a movie, what would it be about? You need to decide on: Plot: Theme: Location: (Including time period) Main Characters (Secretary should be writing all of this information in Sketchbook or on spare sheet of paper)

Start sketching layout: Layout manager will start to sketch ideas into thumbnails. Complete at least 3 full thumbnails before starting to draw on poster and get the ok from me. EVERYONE should be contributing and helping with the idea portion of this project!!!

Everyone: Using pencil at first, transfer the best thumbnail onto poster. Start to fill in areas with various media. Choose wisely! Cooperate! The members of your group will be grading you at the end of this project, so don’t make enemies! I will be watching and making sure you are working as well.

Be Creative! Try to make something we have never seen before!!! It needs to be SCHOOL APPROPRIATE!!!

Following items need to be on your poster/thumbnails: Movie Title Rating Date of Release Main Characters Catch Phrase

Presentations: Tell the entire plot idea first. If you need to read it, that is fine. Make sure you go over the story, the conflict, the characters, and the resolution of the conflict. Show three thumbnails to the class. Discuss the text and the pictures in each thumbnail. show us the one that chose Talk about why you chose the thumbnail you did. Show the poster to class. Talk about why you used text and images the way that you did. Read information off poster to the class including title, rating, catch phrase, date of release, and main characters Discuss any problems you encountered while creating poster and/or anything you would change

Sketchbook Assignment: I have been asked for an open sketchbook assignment for a long time, and I’ve finally decided to give you the opportunity to show me what YOU like to draw. There are a few requirements, but otherwise it’s wide open. Show me what you can do! *MUST cover the WHOLE page and have a foreground and a background. (Do not just color solid colors for the background, think about what makes sense with what you are drawing) *You can use pencils, colored pencils, markers, or crayon. No paint. *Needs to be school appropriate *MUST take at least 90 minutes to draw. Do not draw a stick figure and expect a good grade. I should be able to see you working andn trying throughout the class period!
