Leadership ‘The Walking CV’ Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders. ~Tom Peters

Enthusiast, not Expert Leadership is based on a spiritual quality; the power to inspire, the power to inspire others to follow. ~Vince Lombardi

Being a Leader Doesn’t Matter Yeah Right Being a Leader Doesn’t Matter

BRAND ‘The Walking CV’ Leadership is action, not position. Show three items. What would their three be? Leadership is action, not position. ~Donald H. McGannon

Behaviours As a HoD, Senior Teacher, SMT, Principal, what behaviours do you expect or would like from the teachers responsible to you? What behaviours do you exhibit / demonstrate yourself? Hand out HoM sheets and get audience to rate their strengths (top 3) and then their work-ons (top 3) I am more afraid of an army of one hundred sheep led by a lion than an army of one hundred lions led by a sheep. ~Charles Maurice, Prince de Talleyrand-Périgord

Castaway

What makes these people successful leaders? Relate to HoM behaviours. What would happen if you took Persistence away from Richie McCaw and Creating, Imagining and Innovating away from Burt Munroe Inside my empty bottle I was constructing a lighthouse while all the others were making ships. ~Charles Simic

Leadership Models Staff Leadership Model Student Leadership Model Explain current model of SMT and also Y10 Leaders You don't have to hold a position in order to be a leader. ~Anthony J. D'Angelo,

What Y12 students want to know?

If you want to improve people’s knowledge, performance and actions you must first improve how and what they THINK. Leadership: the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it. ~Dwight D. Eisenhower

WHY? To lead the people, walk behind them. Because QUALITY THINKING always precedes QUALITY ACTIONS! Because what we know and think limits or defines what we do. Because effective people know how to behave not only when they know the answer but also when they don’t. Because knowing how highly successful people behave provides an action plan which ensures focus, cohesiveness and direction to our lives especially given that learning is a lifelong journey. Because teaching, mentoring and demonstrating to others how to think is arguably the most empowering, engaging and inspirational thing a leader can do! To lead the people, walk behind them. ~Lao-Tzu

I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. A Thought “ I’ve come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in my classroom. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It’s my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humour, I can hurt or heal. In all situations it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanised” (H.Ginott)
