Terms in Multiplication The numbers that we use to multiply are called factors. The answers to a multiplication problem is called the product.

Example 1. Write the larger number above the smaller number. Multiply the number in the ones place of the bottom number by each digit in the top number. Then, add a zero and multiply the digit in the tens place of the bottom number by each digit in the top number. Add those numbers together.
