DPM Management
DPM is classified Group 1 carcinogenic to Humans What is DPM? DPM stands for Diesel Particulate Matter. In Underground Coal mines it is a term used to reference the exhaust fumes that are expelled from vehicles while underground. DPM is classified Group 1 carcinogenic to Humans “After a week-long meeting of international experts, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organization (WHO), today classified diesel engine exhaust as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1), based on sufficient evidence that exposure is associated with an increased risk for lung cancer.” Agency for Research on Cancer 2012
BMA CCAT Project 10/09/2018 What is DPM ? The aim of DPM management is to limit exposure of personnel to potentially harmful diesel exhaust emissions to an agreed acceptable risk level. This is achieved by: Controlling the number of operating diesel vehicles in a ventilation district Ensuring that the ventilation quantity in that ventilation district meets relevant is sufficient to dilute diesel exhaust fumes and particulates and to ensure compliance with the requirements and appropriate Regulations © Mine Site Technologies 2012
THE MST DPM SOLUTION Features: BMA CCAT Project 10/09/2018 THE MST DPM SOLUTION Features: Real-time monitoring of DPM levels of Ventilation Districts Alerts Vehicle Operators to DPM state at the entry of a Ventilation District via an electronic sign Automated alarms for DPM breaches Reports Easy management of a Vehicle’s DPM token value and a Ventilation District’s maximum token counts Supports a vehicle being taken “out of service” to allow additional temporary vehicles in a Ventilation District Active vehicle monitoring Leverages existing MST underground tracking infrastructure © Mine Site Technologies 2012
MST DPM SYSTEM
Vehicles are given a DPM token Districts have DPM limits
Entering a DPM Managed Zone 199 47 + 152 = 199 < 200
Entering a DPM Managed Zone 47 + 199 = 246 > 200
