Ancient Solar Power A gift from the gods

Ancient Greeks In the 7th century B.C.E., used magnifying glass to start fires

Ancient Greeks By the 3rd century B.C.E. they were using mirrors to light torches for religious ceremonies. They also were building houses facing south to catch the most light in the winter to keep warm.

Ancient Rome In the 1st century B.C.E., Vitruvius visited Greece and brought the techniques for solar heating back to Rome.

Ancient Rome Around 100 C.E. clear glass was invented. This was used for windows which helped to trap in heat from the sun Especially popular in heating the bath houses
