Introduction: Señorita Lentz How I Learned Spanish Travels Educational Background Why I Teach Spanish

Language Learning Philosophy 90% target language instruction / comprehensible input Gestures, props, pictures; known words, cognates Students need to watch closely and be here every day! Students mostly comprehend at this stage, with some limited (one word, short phrase) output “Affective Filter”: How you feel determines whether or not the new concepts enter your long-term memory. Importance of positive outlook, physical activity, fun, interaction in class community. Z + 1 = every day we build one step farther Research: Krashen

Grading 4-3-2-1-0 scale for assignments and quizzes: ask your student  Need to go “above and beyond” (show critical thinking and creativity) to get a 4 (A) All quizzes can be retaken for full credit. Language learning is a journey!

Spanish at Home “Experiencias Culturales” assignment “Teach Your Family” log Student binder = their permanent, self-made textbook LinguaFolio = lifelong language tracker Music, movies, conversations, websites, real media Class website link in student syllabus English movies with subtitles in Spanish, or vice versa Music in Spanish (Pandora internet radio) Converse with Spanish-speakers in your social circle
