George Seurat Born in Paris 1859-1891 Seurat was very detailed and obsessive Studied Art – dropped out after 1.5 years Developed new art technique – Pointilism Died of diphtheria at 31 years old

Le Grande Jatte Actual painting is 10 by 11 feet There are almost 3.5 million dots of color It took Seurat 2 years to paint Seurat made 28 drawings, 28 panels and 3 canvases before Le Grande Jatte was finished There are 48 people, 8 boats, 3 dogs, a monkey and a butterfly in the painting This painting is displayed at the Chicago Museum of Art
