iTeach Enhancing a Minilesson with Digital Video Session 8

How can digital video enhance my minilesson? Focusing Questions How can digital video enhance my minilesson? How can I find digital videos that are appropriate for my topic?

Instruction

Framing The Session What are some reasons one might use video in a lesson (particularly in your content area)?

Teaching – Benefits of Video Can increase students’ motivation to learn. Supports auditory and visual learners. Provides multimedia content for struggling readers. Provides new background knowledge and reinforces ideas already taught (social studies/science). Provides opportunities to develop listening and note-taking skills (literacy). Can demonstrate a process (math/science).

Strategies for Using Video Use focusing questions and note-taking to structure active listening. Show short selective clips—not complete videos. Watching the video is not the lesson itself! Students should apply the information they collect to a larger project.

Work Time

Find videos that can enhance your minilesson and bookmark them. Work Time Find videos that can enhance your minilesson and bookmark them.
