Starter On page 10 of your sketchbook draw the shapes you find in the photos printed on the front desk. Look how these images are broken down into shapes. Draw on the photo first than transfer the shapes to your book.

Developing a screen & stencil design Printmaking Developing a screen & stencil design

Agenda Go over what we did last time. Demonstration of developing screen Go over the steps of how to develop and spray out a screen. Demonstration on stencil design What is a stencil and how can you make your own. Studio time Begin having students develop their screen. If not developing a screen you are cutting out shapes for the stencil practice. Clean up Exit pass Sketchbook checks today!

Last Time We learned how to photo emulsion a screen and set them back to dry. Most groups were able to get their screens prepared. If you were not able to you will need to do that today and get them drying for next class. If you were not here last time you will need to talk to your group to see where you are at and what you need to do in order to be part of the group. If you are working individually you will need to go to the classroom website www.mrsfrancesconi.weebly.com to get caught up.

Developing a screen Layer the screen with Black paper Screen touching black paper with wood frame up All three transparency designs taped together The piece of glass to hold everything down. Develop the screen for 7 min. Light should be the height of the screen above it. Once developed Turn off light Remove glass carefully it’s hot Remove design Spray out design Use warm water Spray directly at the screen Flip back and forth to spray it out Do not over soak by laying flat.

Positive and Negative space - Pick a design and cut out all the black shapes

Studio time Prepare your screen if you have not prepared it yet. Develop your screen if the light is ready to develop Spray out your screen as soon as you have it developed If you are waiting to develop your screen or you are done developing your screen you will be cutting out the black shapes on your selected paper to make a stencil.

Clean up Make sure you have cleaned and put away all supplies you were using. Make sure the photo emulsion is in the refrigerator if you used it last. Make sure you clean the sink of any residue and paper towels Mop the floor of all the water from spraying out the screens. Make sure you put your screen away so it does not get left outside in the rain.

Exit pass Under where you wrote your starter answer the following questions. What does respect look like to you? Do you feel that cleaning up after yourself is part of being an adult? Why? How do you think others feel when you disrespect them, by ignoring them or being on your phones while they talk to you?
