Presentation transcript:

In a disasters, you may not have the things you take for granted every day: Phone and internet service Electricity Fresh drinking water Quick access to police, fire and emergency medical services In-home assistance By preparing now you can be a resource to your family, your neighborhood, and your community in a disaster.

Connect with an isolated individual or start a neighborhood organization Promote emergency preparedness Become a volunteer

Neighbors that work together before a disaster Area better able to help each other during a disaster Ensure that everyone is connected with available recovery services after a disaster, and that there aren’t unmet needs Can advocate to get things done in their neighborhood to prevent damage before a disaster, or get things back to normal after

If your neighborhood has a watch, association or other organization, join it. Talk to members about disasters and the importance of strong neighborhoods. If you don’t have an organization, think about starting one.

People who are isolated before a disaster are often reluctant to ask for help after a disaster. They may also be less likely to follow emergency instructions. Let them know that you will check on them in a disaster and ask if you can help them plan for emergencies.
