Nubia andEgypt

Intro: Nubia A civilization that extends from Southern Egypt into Northern Sudan A neighbor / trading partner and sometimes opponent of Egypt.

Sources On Nubia Written records documenting trade with Egypt describe a powerful kingdom. Archeological evidence shows the Nubians also thought of their kings as gods.

Nubia Basics Played an important role in ancient Africa Remained an advanced civilization for about a thousand years

(Nubia Basics Part 2) Had advanced iron working technology Traded with not only Egypt but also other African nations and India.

The Land of Nubia Like Egypt it depended on the flooding of the Nile. Nubia generated a smaller surplus of food that allowed it to support cities with artisans & merchants.

(The Land of Nubia Part 2) Had much less farmland than Egypt Cataracts in the Nile made it impossible to travel by boat. They had to walk through the hot desert to get from place to place.

Nubia & Egypt They needed items from each other so they traded with each other. Nubia borrowed many cultural aspects from Egypt. They each invaded the other and took it over. (More info on the front)
