Chapter 18 Free silver was a demand of Populist Party. Colorado was the state that joined the Union in 1876. The Central Pacific relied on workers who were Chinese. Vaqueros customarily wore wide-brimmed hats, chaps, and lariats. When thousands of cattle run in panic it is called a stampede.

Chapter 18 Omaha and Osage are two Native American nations that lived as farmers and hunters. The Indian Peace Commission recommended that Native Americans be moved to reservations. George Cluster was the Civil War veteran defeated by Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. The last Native American to surrender formally to the United States was Geronimo. Using machine guns, United States soldiers killed more than 300 starving Lakota men, women, children. Farmers’ alliances organization formed the People’s Party.
