6 Speaking Skills

1. Volume Make sure to speak loudly! Everyone in the room needs to hear you loud and clear!

2. Eye Contact Make sure to look at your audience. Don’t stare at your notecards, your feet, the wall, or ceiling.

3. Articulation Speak clearly and annunciate. Do not mumble!

4. Pitch/Tone Speak with enthusiasm and conviction. Do not speak with a dull/monotone voice.

5. Poise Do the best you can to look confident and comfortable. Don’t rock and back and fourth, don’t stick your hands in your pocket, and don’t fidget.

6. Rate/Pacing Speak slowly without random pauses to make sure your sentences flow nicely from one to the next. Avoid saying "like” or “Umm”.
