Enterprise Computing Topics in IT Programs Or How we accomplished that in RIT’s IT and Networking Programs

Defining “Enterprise” What is it? What is its current definition? How often does it change? What paradigms are involved? Hardware Software Systems Administration

Faculty expertise Is the faculty prepared to teach enterprise-level material? Training opportunities Using industry experts to fill the knowledge gap (adjunct faculty) Tapping into industry collaboration such as an Industrial Advisory Board

Undergraduate program considerations Program outcomes analysis Student academic maturity Program year Job/internship experience Laboratory equipment availability Networking infrastructure Software availability Software licensing

Graduate program considerations Program outcomes analysis Student parameters Nationality Job experience Future employment Laboratory equipment availability Networking infrastructure Software availability Software licensing Distance offering issues

Adding enterprise topics into existing courses What topic complexity? What the new material replaces (something inserted means something else deleted) in the course Topic focus prerequisites (are students ready?) Technical Conceptual (goes back to the definition of enterprise) Comparison to other platforms/processes Where in the program schedule is the course? Approval by Ed. Dept. or accrediting body

Designing brand new courses Does this change the nature of the program? Approval by Ed. Dept. or accrediting body Where in the program schedule is the course? What is the course focus? Tying it into previous coursework Is there enough material for an entire course? Core or elective decision Important that every student grasps the material Part of a concentration area as an advanced track Multiple courses in a sequence

Could we be talking about a new degree program? Again, program outcomes analysis What will students know upon graduation? Is enterprise computing a radical shift from the previous program content?
