Welcome to Rising 7th Grade Scheduling

Standard Diploma Academic Areas Credits SOL Verified Credits English 4 2 Social Studies (World Studies, US/VA Government, and US/VA History) 3 1 Mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, Functions, Algebra II or above level of Algebra II) Science (From 2 of the 4 disciplines: Biological, Chemical, Physical, Earth) Health/Family Life/Physical Education Foreign Language, Fine Arts, or CTE Economics and Personal Finance Electives (Must include 2 sequential electives) Student Selected Verified Credit Total 22 6

Advanced Studies Diploma Academic Areas Credits SOL Verified Credits English 4 2 Social Studies (World Studies (2), US/VA Government, and US/VA History) Mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or above level of Algebra II) Science (From 3 of the 4 disciplines: Biological, Chemical, Physical, Earth) Foreign Language (3 years of one language or 2 years each of two different languages) 3 or 4 Health/Physical Education Fine Arts or Career & Technical Education 1 Economics & Personal Finance Electives 3 Student Selected Verified Credit Total (depends on foreign language option) 26 or 27 9

7th Grade Required Courses Your teachers have made recommendations regarding….. Language Arts – Honors or Academic US History – Honors or Academic Life Science – Honors or Academic Math 7 or Algebra I

Required Courses One semester of Technology Education and one semester of Family and Consumer Science One block of PE

Math If you are currently taking Math 6 you will take Math 7. If you are currently taking Accelerated Math 6/7 you will take Algebra 1 unless recommended for Math 7 by your teacher. Algebra I is a high school credit bearing course and your final grade will be factored into your high school GPA

Electives You must choose one Fine Arts elective -Art 7 -Band 7 (must currently be enrolled in Band 6) -Strings 7 (must currently be enrolled in Strings 6) -Guitar 7 -Chorus 7 You will have 45 minutes of your elective, and 45 minutes of Resource or Spectrum.

Additional Elective Level 1 World Language- Spanish, French, German or Latin. World Language is a high school credit bearing course and final grades will go on your transcript and count towards your high school GPA. Communication Studies- English exploration class that focuses on public speaking, working with media. This class is project based – publications and broadcast. Coding At The Middle School-New this year and will be an introduction to computational thinking. Students will engage in project based learning, use creativity, critical thinking and collaboration as the processes for exploration. First semester – Scratch (Block Coding) Second semester – Agent Cubes (Conditional – Game Creation)

Elective Choices Choose 1 from here: Art Band 7 (must currently be enrolled in Band 6) Strings 7 (must currently be enrolled in Strings 6) Guitar 7 Chorus 7 World Language(French, Spanish, German, Latin) Communications Coding at the Middle School

Elective Courses Choose 2 Alternate Courses Alternate courses must be: World Language Coding at the Middle School Communications Alternate courses MAY NOT be Art or Music

Log on to StudentVue Click on the Course Request tab on the left hand side You will see your core courses are already there along with FACS, Tech Ed. and PE. Click on ”Click here to change course requests” Go to the bottom right corner of the page Click on “Search Courses”

StudentVue Choose your elective and alternate courses from the list. You must choose 2 electives and 1 alternate elective. Click on the Request button if it is your first choice Click on the Alternate button if it is your second choice To save, click on ”Click here to move selected requests to Selected Course Requests” Check your course list to make sure your electives and alternate are listed

What happens next? You and your parents will be able to make elective changes online through Student/ParentVue until February 22, 2017. After that date, your parents will need to send Ms. Simpson an email to make any changes. Any changes to core courses must be made by email through Ms. Simpson. There will be no changes after June 9, 2017!!
