All About Me! -I live in Latrobe with my two daughters, and two dogs. -I am a GLSD graduate. - I studied at Seton Hill College, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a certificate in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. -I began my teaching career at BES in 1994. -I have been a first grade teacher here at BES for all of the years except for three. I taught second grade at BES for three years. -I am eager to have the opportunity to work closely with you and your child throughout their first grade year!

Writing will be a strong focus for our first graders Writing will be a strong focus for our first graders. We will be writing everyday. The students will follow a four point rubric to assess their writing! We will be writing narrative, persuasive, and informative writing pieces.

First graders will have a spelling test every Friday. Please see your “binder” for fun spelling practices.

Go Math Interactive, Hands On, Real World Problem Solving, Math Series! -Operations and Algebraic Thinking Addition and Subtraction -Numbers and operations in Base Ten Comparing Numbers -Measurement, Data, and Geometry -

Mrs. Chambers We are very excited to announce that Mrs. Chambers will be the First Grade Reading Specialist. She will be working with all first graders at various times throughout the day; this may take place in the classroom or in a small group area. Mrs. Chambers will help work with your child on specific skills that need to be developed.

Binders Our homework is all together in their first grade binder. The binder will come home Mon-Thurs. There will be no homework on Fridays! The First Grade Homework Schedule: Day Homework Monday Spelling / HFW Words Tuesday Reading Assignment – Anthology Wednesday Reading Assignment - Decodable Sheet Thursday Reading Assignment - Fluency Sheet Friday Spelling Test / No Homework!

Tutoring First graders will have the opportunity to arrive early to school for tutoring in math and reading skills. We will send home more information regarding tutoring at a later date.

Technology Updates -Back to School Forms -SchoolMint – Parents/Guardians will be receiving information and instructions on the first day of school along with an access code. (paper form) -Email registered with GLSD, parent will receive this information through an email. -If a parent does not wish to complete the information online, we will provide them the opportunity to request printed forms. -District Mobile App / District Website -Makeover (appearance and function) -FCC Ruling – will no longer be permitted to send broadcast e-Alerts -Anticipated within the next month
