Daily Directions Pick up the BLUE Analysis and Conclusion attachment from the counter Look over the Procedures to make sure you understand the steps for conducting the experiment Open your notebook to your hypothesis Should be written IN PEN Must be completed before you may begin the lab

Chemical Reactions Lab 52 Chemical Reactions Lab Research Question: What evidence will allow you use to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred when two or more substances are combined? Hypothesis: If I combine 2 or more substances, I will know a chemical reaction has occurred by… Materials: Variables: Controlled: Responding (Dependent): Manipulated (Independent): Test tubes (2) Graduated cylinder Baking soda (A) Permanent marker Thermometer Test tube brush Test tube rack Calcium chloride(B) Lab sponge Vinegar Safety glasses Plastic scoop

Chemical Reactions Lab 53 0. Put on Lab Safety Glasses 12. Wash hands with soap and water, then remove Lab Safety Glasses

Chemical Reactions Lab 54 Chemical Reactions Lab Conclusion:

Science Safety I will act in a safe manner. I will not misbehave in the laboratory or play with laboratory equipment or materials. I will not engage in behavior that is disruptive or dangerous or that interferes with another student’s right to learn. I will protect my eyes, face, and hands while engaging in lab activities by wearing safety goggles and, when needed, gloves or other protective gear, when instructed to do so. I will work only at my assigned station with the materials assigned to my group.

Science Safety I will follow all written and oral instructions. I will wait until I receive my teacher’s permission to begin a lab activity. I will not carry out unassigned lab experiments without my teacher’s permission. I will not eat, drink, or taste anything in the laboratory. This includes food and drink as well as chemicals.

Science Safety I will wash my hands thoroughly after using chemicals and lab equipment. When using chemicals or working with live specimens, I will not touch my mouth, lips, or eyes until after I have washed my hands. I will report any injury or accident to my teacher immediately. I will clean up my lab station properly at the end of all lab activities.

Science Safety I understand that failure to comply with these guidelines may result in my being removed from class and that I will lose credit for the work that is done during my absence.   Student Name (Printed) ________________________________________ Student Signature: ______________________________ Date:_________ I have read this Safety Contract and understand what is expected of my student during science laboratory activities. Chemical Reactions Lab Reminders SAFETY GLASSES ON! Waft – Smell carefully Leave materials from the front counter AT THE FRONT COUNTER Or return them right away! Don’t forget to measure and record TEMPERATURES Optional Record/Video the chemical reactions (some happen quickly)

Chemical Reactions Lab – Clean Up Clean all materials and set out to dry Arrange materials neatly (so Mr. Bachmeier can easily see that everything is present) Wipe lab counters with a sponge Rinse the sponge a couple times to get rid of the chemical residue Wash hands with soap and water When your lab station is clean: Work on the Lab Set-Up diagram Begin your conclusion Only if you have all the data collected
