Presentation transcript:

Our topic for this half term is Thank you all so much for bringing in your ‘Autumn Walk’ bags on Monday. The children were so excited to talk about what they had found. The class watched a video about harvest time together before exploring a basket of fruits and vegetables. We talked about remembering to say thank you for the food we receive, even if it is not our favourite. Harvest is the time of year when we give thanks for all of the food we have. Each child drew a picture on a leaf of a food that they would like to say thank you to God for. Some children had a go at writing the initial sound in words e.g. ‘a’ for apple. This has formed a lovely Harvest Thanksgiving tree which is displayed in our classroom. We also practised singing the song ‘Thank you God for the harvest’. We set up our own fruit and vegetable shop in the classroom this week and children have had great fun choosing what they would like to buy. They have been learning how to communicate in their roles as shopkeeper and customer and take turns in conversation. They even had a go at writing their own shopping lists aswell! In Maths this week, the children have been practising counting fruits and vegetables reliably in our class shop. The customers have been counting out pennies to give to the shopkeeper to pay for their shopping. Why not set up a fruit or vegetable shop at home. Support your child in practising their communication and language skills by taking on the role of the shopkeeper and customer. Our topic for this half term is ‘All About Me’. WB 26/9/16 On Thursday afternoon, Reception will go on a pre-visit walk from school to the Church in preparation for the Harvest Service on Friday. Reverend Sue is going to meet us there and show us where we will be sitting. We will also talk about how to behave respectfully inside the church. We also looked at some creations by the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. He was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers and fish. Each child carefully arranged some self chosen harvest produce to create their own fruit and vegetable faces. We took some photos to show you! The children listened to the story ‘A Wet and Windy Harvest for Puddles’. Puddles the cat features in a series of books which help to introduce children to aspects of the Christian faith. In this story, the mischievous cat is enjoying playing in the autumn leaves but not content to play outside, she joins the congregation of Freddie Fisher’s church for the Harvest Service. I hope your child enjoys the Harvest Festival at Church on Friday. Next week we will listen to the traditional tale ‘The Three Pigs’ and talk about our own homes. Have a great weekend!
