Joh 7:37-39 Series on the Holy Spirit Rivers of Living Water

Joh 7:37-39 And in the last day of the great feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. (38) He who believes on Me, as the Scripture has said, "Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." (39) (But He spoke this about the Spirit, which they who believed on Him should receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

The Feast of Tabernacle The Feast of Tabernacles (Lev 23:34-42) The day after the completing the feast is the highest day of the festival period. It is on this day, Jesus stood in the temple and proclaimed

Feast of tabernacle Is to remember the days The wilderness experience Days of impermanence God’s caring and provisions for the people and their life stocks

Physical Thirst a reality and a need As the Jews in the wilderness: So desirable, sought after So refreshing, so reviving So precious Quenchable only with water

Spiritual Thirst An inner need that could not do without Absent from within It is something specific Yet not finding and no substitute

Jesus is where you will find “water” Come to know Jesus he is the marker Come to know what Jesus represents the way, the truth, the life Come to see what Jesus has done

The Holy Spirit is the water Who is from God Quenches our spiritual thirst Quenches from the core of man Overwhelming abundance

Application What do you seek? How have you been? Jesus is calling Come and you shall receive the Holy Spirit and you shall be satisfied

Conclusion … but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Joh 4:14
