Feast of Tabernacles Also Known As Sukkot or Booths Observed 15-22 Tishri September/October Scripture Leviticus 23:33-43 Hebrew

Feast of Tabernacles Tabernacles is a week-long celebration of the autumn harvest. It commemorates the forty-year wilderness journey in remembrance of God’s faithfulness and protection.

Feast of Tabernacles The sukkah is a temporary lean-to built of wood, or wood and canvas – usually on a lawn or a balcony. The roof is made of branches and leaves with enough open spaces to see the stars. Modern Day Sukkah

Feast of Tabernacles The ‘four species’ used at this time are known as myrtle, citron, palm, and willow (Leviticus 23:40). Myrtle Citron Palm Willow

Feast of Tabernacles A lulav is waved in all four directions (north, south, east, and west) and up and down to symbolise that God’s presence is everywhere. Lulav made of palm, willow, and myrtle

Feast of Tabernacles This feast represents the final harvest when all nations will share in the joy and blessings of God’s kingdom on earth. During this time, all believers will celebrate this feast (Zech. 14:16-17). The living God will ‘tabernacle’ in the midst of his people (Ezekiel 37:27-28; Isaiah 4:5-6) … and … then, forever (Revelation 21:3; 7:9-10).

Feast of Tabernacles The temple lighting ceremony: four giant golden lampstands lit in the temple courtyard. Singing of Songs of Ascent by the Levites (Psalms 120-134). The day after the lights went out, Jesus said: ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’ (John 8:12)

Feast of Tabernacles The water ceremony: a priest carried water from the pool of Siloam to the temple, symbolising that when Messiah comes the whole earth will know God ‘as the waters cover the sea.’ (Isaiah 11:9) On the last day, Jesus said: ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink … streams of living water will flow from within him.’ (John 7:37-38)
