Stained Glass Window Restoration Project Phase I

Day 1 Safety first, the Lynchburg team begins each day with safety in mind. The team lays out plastic to catch any debris and suits up for protection from any concentrated lead dust.

Day 1 Climate control is the next priority and the team seals off each window from the inside to maintain the climate integrity. After removing the old storm window frames and the retaining trim, the team tapes and reinforces the window frame with boards.

Day 1 Finally, they carefully removed window #23 from where it has been perched for 124 years.

Day 1 The window is carefully transported to the storage truck and tied to the rack on the side rails.

Day 1 Finding some rot, it is good that is project is underway. The good news is that the frame side rails are in great shape with just some minor repair work needed.

Day 2 As each window is removed, the gaping void is filled with ½” plywood and screwed into place to protect the sanctuary from the elements. The balcony window is almost completely removed.

Day 3 Today is tower day!

Day 4 The wind is rough today. Work is almost complete on the tower.

Day 4 After four long days, removal of Phase I is complete and the clean-up is underway. The windows are on their way to Virginia!
