Safety with Hazardous Materials Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Establishes and enforces work place safety When Handling Liquids: Read label at least 3 times Never mix solutions Employer must inform employee of chemicals or other hazardous liquids in the workplace How would they do this?? Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

Safety with Hazardous Materials MSDS sheets must include: Product Information Precautions Instructions for use Clean up procedure Disposal Emergency Care if injured Spills Get the MSDS Follow the procedure for cleaning up the spill & disposing of products Report the incident to supervisor Receive appropriate first aid

Safety with Hazardous Materials Safety Signs and Symbols contaminated or contain infectious pathogens x-ray or radiation treatment areas oxygen in use, no smoking or open flames in these areas

Safety Guidelines for Injury Prevention Illness and injury Plan should include: Blood and Body Fluids Exposure Wash or flush with water Report exposure to supervisor Discuss with facility’s exposure control manager Follow appropriate post exposure treatment

Safety Guidelines for Injury Prevention Foreign Body in Eye Do not remove object Seek immediate medical attention Notify supervisor Chemical Injury to Eye Rinse with copious amounts of water
