Occupations: some of the jobs people did in Palestine at the time of Jesus Shepherds Weavers Grain Farmers Carpenters We work hard and we help each other WATCH CAREFULLY!!

Shepherds… ..were very important in their community. A sheep without a shepherd was in danger - sheep depended on their shepherd for protection and to see they got enough food and water. WATCH CAREFULLY!!

Shepherd Does this shepherd look happy. what might he be thinking of– or watching? can you guess what the ‘stick’ he is holding is called? can you imagine why it is bent at the top? watch out later on to see him carry a staff, (walking stick) and a sling – all made by the carpenters in the village.

THE SLING THROWS OUT STONES TO FRIGHTEN AWAY WILD ANIMALS BY THE NOISE THEY MAKE WHEN THEY FALL ON STONES OR BUSHES. HOW MANY THINGS DO YOU SEE MADE OF LEATHER BY THE LEATHER WORKERS? WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE IN THE BAGS? (OFTEN FOOD: BREAD STUFFED WITH CHEESE, FIGS, OLIVES) BOTTLES WERE MADE FROM LEATHER TO CARRY WINE TOO

It can take a long time to get to good pasture WHAT DO YOU NOTICE ABOUT THE GROUND HERE? (DRY) IT WAS VERY IMPORTANT TO FIND WATER FOR THE SHEEP. SHEPHERDS LED THEIR FLOCKS TO WATER THAT FLOWED GENTLY, NOT TOO FAST – CAN YOU THINK WHY?

An Injured Lamb? WHY DO YOU THINK THE SHEPHERD IS CARRYING THIS LAMB? DO SHEPHERDS SOMETIMES STILL CARRY A LAMB LIKE THIS? IN HOW MANY WAYS DO YOU THINK HIS STAFF IS HELPFUL?

A SNACK ON THE WAY? SHEEP WERE VERY DEPENDENT ON THEIR SHEPHERD FOR PROTECTION, SHEPHERDS ARE KIND TO THEIR ANIMALS
