Home Grown Forage Resource Collection Analysis Review Collect, collate and describe available resources Initial review of suitability Widget to allow external access Business Intelligence module Allow overview of collection Gap analysis to guide future activity Defined ‘structure’ and style Desired ‘suites’ by practice area Process for ongoing review and research capture

Aims/Outputs of The Project Capitalise on sunk costs from previous R, D & E projects (i.e. 30 30) by improving the accessibility, currency and relevance of resources and tools developed. Collate current HGF resource assets Allow a greater understanding of the coverage of resources across practice areas, regions etc. Develop an on-going process for revision of resources and capture of new knowledge Develop up-to-date resources with a consistent structure and style Alignment with Dairy moving Forward’s Feedbase & Nutrition Outcomes Programs – (i.e. Forage Improvement, Animal Nutrition & Feeding Systems)

Key Components of Solution Development of a suite of up-to-date, technically validated and audience relevant resources dealing with aspects of home grown feed management. Curation of the HGF collection and development of a widget to enable DA/Farmer access SEFS has provided tools (KCT – Knowledge Curation Tool), standards and processes to allow for the consistent description of resources and collections as well as providing the dairy industry with access to the HGF collection. Extensive meta tagging of the material allow for the analysis & presentation of collection filters, so that stakeholders can see resource gaps and relationships in ways not previously possible (such as by organising resources by region, practice area and expertise level) Build the systems and processes at an industry level to enable and maintain this collection.

Feed Tools Solution The Feed Tools Solution is a mobile first website/app that enables dairy farmers to manage their feed requirements by applying their farm and herd’s metrics against best practice research and knowledge.

Key Results & Findings The Feed Tools solution is currently undergoing planning for a soft launch in late 2016. User acceptance testing and socialization of the solution has taken place. Feedback has been very positive: Mark Billing (farmer, Colac) : He likes the tool a lot as tracking feed inventory is so important for his business. Right level of detail. Interface is easy to use. Loves the storage facility graphics and how they progressively fill. Lyndal Hackett (nutritionist, Rivalea): She thinks the overall look is simple, clean and fresh. She likes the information tabs that give you more details if required.
