From Corporate Fitness Works Team Leader, Keriann Hill February, 2017 Adding a “Metabolic Burst” What is a Metabolic Burst? A metabolic burst is a short bout of intense exercise that raises the heart rate and increase your metabolism post-exercise for a higher caloric burn. Exercise programs with metabolic bursts will be more time-efficient with short bursts of exercise. Examples of how to use Metabolic Bursts in your workout: Complete a 60 second burst of high-intensity running on the treadmill at a challenging incline. Recover for 2-4 minutes with strength exercises like bicep curls, wall sits, shoulder press, etc. Complete two 30 second bursts of squat jumps with 30 seconds of rest between them. Recover for another 2-4 minutes with a different set of strength exercises. Repeat until you accumulate 4-6 minutes of high intensity metabolic bursts. Modification Options for lower impact metabolic bursts: Utilize the bike, elliptical, or swimming pool for your high intensity bursts of exercise. Vary the length of each burst, feel free to add or decrease recovery time too! http://www.ideafit.com/fitness-library/short-burst-training From Corporate Fitness Works Team Leader, Keriann Hill Corporate Fitness Works, Inc.
