Sustainability M-learning module for children 8-12 years. Sulbha Wagh LTEC 5220 Multimedia in Technology Applications FINAL PROJECT 12/7/2016

Sustainability My project is a module suitable for a week of Summer Camp for in class teaching or totally online class, using the Responsive Web design in Dreamweaver. There are three modules: My basic objective was to bring awareness to kids at this age to make informed decisions in their everyday activities keeping sustainability in mind – that resources are finite, and we need to use them wisely. The link is here: https://classes.lt.unt.edu/Fall_2016/LTEC_5220_086/ssw0113/Module1home.html

Sustainability These are the three modules. Energy – how the use of fossil energy causes global warming which leads to climate change. This module will run two days. Biodiversity – The second module is on how global climate change affects the habitat of flora and fauna and us humans. Animals and plants end up being extinct, how everything is connected. One change in one systems starts a domino effect in other systems. Drinking Water – The Third module is on drinking water resources and the Great Lakes, which is the largest source of fresh water in the world

Sustainability….. The Third module goes for two days, with the fifth day being dedicated to the Flint Water Crisis, and how the crisis occurred because of sustainability issues – aging infrastructure, share of a finite resource with industry, agriculture, recreation etc. The whole module is based on sources coming from .gov websites that are in the public domain – Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Energy (DOE), National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), US Fish and Wildlife Service. These databases are such a treasure trove of information, and unfortunately not promoted as such. .

Sustainability…. The multimedia that I used are video, slide show with spectacular images from NOAA and NASA, some of which are time lapsed images, and US Fish and Wildlife Service. On each module there is link for documents tutorials. One such that I want you to click is under the Biodiversity module http://nca2014.globalchange.gov/highlights/report-findings/ecosystems-and- biodiversity Spectacular images that tell the whole story global climate change.

SUSTAINABILITY…… Some images

Sustainability…..Great Lakes Region Invasive species: This video explains it all. https://youtu.be/ou_A_gBlW2g I hope it starts you thinking too!

Sustainability ……Flint Water crisis Stunning images that you have to wonder about lead poisoning. How I sthat possible in the United States of America? Lead toxicity is irreversible. So this next generation of kids in Flint paid a price for government that was supposed to be “ by the people for the people”? Images of rusted pipes, and samples of tap water that rae almost red in color because of the lead oxides.

Sustainability….. Each module is organized by Objectives, Activity and Assessment (Knowledge checks) In the assessment section there are games, quizzes and questions (reflections) that will help the student understand the issues. Under Energy, one quiz that I would like you all to take is that about calculating your carbon footprint, and what would you do to change your behavior? Here is the link: https://www3.epa.gov/carbon-footprint-calculator/ And take a look at this link. https://climatekids.nasa.gov/

sustainability I am very passionate about Sustainability issues and feel that kids need to be educated so they become better global citizens. And I hope I have conveyed feeling in these modules for the issues. Climate is a global issue! Thank you for taking the time to watch it! Sulbha Wagh
