Course Outline Assessment This course has been comprehensively designed to excel, motivate and challenge students in all levels of music study, musical backgrounds and abilities. All students who love music and wish to be challenged and grown in their musical knowledge, skills and experience are encouraged to elect this subject. Year 10 Music covers performance, composition, musicianship, critical listening and written work (including a composition folio). This subject is an essential and thorough preparation for students who wish to continue studying Music at VCE level or equivalent. Assessment The course is divided into four major assessments: 1. Performance (both solo and group), including the use of Music Technology 2. Musicianship (using the latest Cloud software) 3. Listening Analysis (critical listening, including a live listening review) 4. Research Assignment and Composition Folio

Topics Covered Acoustics - exploration of acoustics of different instruments and how acoustics impact composition and performance Arranging - arrangement of music in groups Compositional Elements - deep investigation of musical concepts to use in composition, performance and critical listening Solo and Group Performance - performing regularly and at a high standard, individually and in an ensemble, on instrument/s of choice
