Presentation transcript:

When they say… You say…

When they say… Your claim that a fetus is a human being is a religious belief. Don’t force your religion on me You say: My belief is based on scientific facts of biology You say that being alive and human isn’t enough and there must be additional attributes Therefore your belief is philosophical or religious Don’t force it on unborn babies

When they say… But a fetus isn’t a person You say: The term person is arbitrary In law a corporation or other non-human entities are a person The label is when we want to use rights The right to life should be automatic for every human being

When they say… Nobody likes abortion, but it has to be available for victims of rape and incest and when a pregnancy would kill or injure the woman You say… 75% baby would interfere with work or school 1% is for rape or incest 3% listed a health problem as reason

When they say… You are anti-choice! You say… I am anti-choice on drunk driving, child abuse, beating, drug pushing, running red lights, and rape I am also anti-choice on killing innocent, defenseless human beings, which is what abortion does

When they say… It doesn’t matter whether abortion is right or wrong. The question is “who decides?” You say… The question is not, “who decides?” The question is “who dies?” Every time an abortion is performed, an unborn baby is killed

When they say… Abortion should be a decision made by a woman and her doctor You say… You’re forgetting someone – the unborn baby who dies every time an abortion is performed

When they say… The government has no business intruding in the private decision about whether or not to bear a child You say… The government has no right to tell anyone whether or not to have children, but it does have a right and duty to protect one group of human beings from being killed by another

When they say… Freedom of choice must be protected You say… The right to choose is not without limitation Before 1869 many Americans believed they had a right to choose slave ownership as a part of the right to own property Americans wisely decided not to allow that choice Or… the real choice: a live baby or a dead baby Or…Is the baby a choice, or a child?

When they say… My position is not pro-abortion; it’s pro-choice You say… When someone says that Killing babies should be a practice protected by law And tax dollars should pay for it That teenagers should be allowed to engage in it without parental consent That fathers should have no right to protect their unborn child That killing should be allowed at any point in the pregnancy That is pro- abortion

Pro- abortion No longer pro-choice Do not use their terms Call them what they are: pro-abortion ***Calling them pro-choice gives them the idea that abortion is a legit option

When they say… A fetus isn’t a human being You say… An unborn baby is a being because he/she has parents People produce nothing different than a child The offspring of human parents is a human child

When they say… No one knows when life begins. Everyone has their own ideas about it You say… People’s lives don’t begin at different times because what the mother thought Life begins at conception Nothing was added except nutrition and time to grow just like the time you need after birth

When they say… The most important thing for a candidate is winning the election. Taking a pro-life position is political suicide You say… The most dangerous position for a candidate is to not take a stand on the abortion issue Suggests you have no convictions There is a large number of pro-lifers but they need to know the candidate will stand for the babies when in office

When they say… Candidates for public office should not be judged on a single issue You say… The right to life is not a single issue Care about a wide range of issues If deliberate destruction of babies is allowed then they are disqualified from consideration of other issues With out the right to life the other issues are meaningless

When they say… If abortion is made illegal, millions of “unwanted” babies would be born who will be victims of abuse and neglect You say… Unplanned does not mean “unwanted” Many have unplanned children that are loved and wanted after birth Legalizing abortion has not reduced child abuse Only added they idea that only “wanted” children have value and those that are not wanted or are a burden can be mistreated or even destroyed

When they say… I’m not for abortion when the fetus is viable, but the government shouldn’t restrict it during the first trimester You say… Whether performed early or late, the same baby dies So, the law should protect babies who need it least – those who cannot survive outside the womb – while abandoning the babies who need protection the most Justice demands that the law should offer equal protection to all babies at every stage of their development

When they say… Abortion is a moral issue. It should be addressed by churches and philosophers, not legislators You say… War, poverty, racism, and other evils are moral issues which legislators can address Every law embraces someone’s morality and challenge’s someone else’s

When they say… The abortion debate has become too polarized. Each side should agree to a compromise You say… No compromise is possible when it comes to the law protecting life of every human being Pro-lifers will never abandon this principle We have been willing to proceed in stages towards our goal of protecting the unborn through prohibiting public funding of abortion and requiring parental consent for minors Abortion advocates cling to their claim that women have more right than the baby They are not willing to extend the law’s protection to any baby, because that would undermine their position that no baby has right to life

When they say… To proposed legislation to prevent the use of abortion for birth control is too extreme because it would prohibit nearly all abortions You say… Extreme: 45 million babies have been legally killed since 1973 Roe V. Wade Abortion has become a method of birth control The bill is reasonable to prohibit abortions done simply because the baby is not welcome at the time

When they say… I am personally opposed to abortion and would prohibit it after viability You say… Opinion doesn’t matter How do you plan to protect unborn babies as a public official It makes no sense to offer protection to babies who can live on their own and abandon those who need protection most Justice and fairness demand the law should protect all unborn babies no matter the age

When they say… Being pro-life means more than just opposing abortion. I am pro- life because I favor anti-poverty programs, daycare assistance, and housing subsides etc. for people who have already been born You say… Your concern for the needy is commendable but the poorest and neediest among us is the unborn babies killed for convenience I cannot agree that someone who agrees with killing babies is pro-life

When they say… No one can say when life begins because it had only one beginning millions of years ago. In choosing abortion, a woman merely decides not to pass life on You say… We’re not talking about the beginning of life on the planet We are talking about human being’s conception Abortion doesn’t break the chains of life – it kills a human baby

When they say… If abortion is made illegal, women will just get “back alley abortions and thousands will die You say… Claims that thousands of women died from illegal abortions were fabricated in order to gain support for changing the law There were only 39 deaths in 1972 from this Killing 1.3 million babies a year will not prevent women from dying Offer positive alternates for women and babies

When they say… Teens are capable of making the abortion decision on their own You say… Parental consultation and consent is required for tooth drilling, to take an aspirin from a school nurse and to go on a field trip In all other areas, parental guidance is required

When they say… If parents find out about a minor daughter’s abortion plans, they may throw her out of the home or even physically harm her You say… Parents and children are not natural enemies The law should presume that the parents have their children’s best interests at heart and they are more qualified to help their daughter than an abortionist In rare cases that the parents do not help, others are there to help and support her

When they say… The “Ozzie and Harriet” family is no longer the norm. Many teenagers live in dysfunctional families You say… All families are dysfunctional to some extent When outsiders conspire to hide an abortion it does nothing to help the family function it simply hides the problem or makes it worse An abortion is a death in the family and the family deserves to know

When they say… Requiring parental notice creates delay and forces teens to undergo second trimester abortions You say… There is no evidence this is true Many more women over 18 undergo second trimester abortions than do teens affected by parental notification laws If abortionists think this is a dangerous procedure, they should not perform it on anyone
