El Pluscuamperfecto (el pasado perfecto)

El Pluscuamperfecto- ¿Cómo se usa? The past perfect is used to describe an action in the past that occurred BEFORE another action. When Tyler got home, Chris HAD ALREADY DROPPED off the papers. My dad HAD LEFT for work before I woke up. WE still HADN’T FINISHED the activity when class ended.

El Pluscuamperfecto- ¿Cómo se forma? We know that the word “había” means “there was” and “there were”. However, to form the past perfect you use HABER in the imperfect and combine it with the past participle. HABER (imperfecto) + past participle había habíamos habías habíais habían -ADO -IDO +

This looks familiar! Yes! It looks a lot like the present perfect. The PRESENT perfect was formed by using the PRESENT tense of “haber” plus the participle (he, has, ha, hemos, han) + (-ad0/-ido). In English it means: “has or have done something” The PAST perfect is formed by using the IMPERFECT form of “haber” plus the particple (había, habías, había, habíamos, habían) + (-ado/-ido) In English it means: “HAD done something”

Practica A – ¿Cómo se dice en inglés? Cuando te acostaste anoche, ya habías terminado tu tarea. When you went to sleep last night, you had already finished your homework. 2. Susana todavía no se había graduado del colegio cuando conoció a Sebastian. Susana still hadn’t graduated from high school when she met Sebastian. 3. Antes de llegar a la escuela, Sra. Smith ya había ido a Starbucks para cafe. Before arriving at school, Mrs. Smith had already gone to Starbucks for coffee.

El Pluscuamperfecto: Práctica B 1. When the police found him, he had already sold the computer. Cuando la policía lo encontró el ya había vendido la computadora. When Carmina called me, I hadn’t made plans yet. Cuando Carmina me llamó, yo todavía no había hecho planes.
