FCC Civil Engineering John Osborne & Jo Stanyard (SMB - Site Engineering - FAS Section) FCC week outline 10th May 2017

John Osborne, Joanna Stanyard (CERN-SMB-SE) Outline Brief history of TOT and previous layouts: How and why TOT was developed 80km, 87km, 93km, 100km options 100 km option development Intersecting v non-intersecting Layout & Siting Review since Rome 2016 97.75km options – new layout Assessment criteria Shallow vs deep option Design development of structures New 3D schematic – experimental points moved, beam dumps moved. Current dimensions of structures. Inclined access study. Cost & Schedule study Explain role of 2 sets of consultants. Scope of Phase 1 Scope of Phase 2 variations Early results Future steps Consolidating cost and schedule results Fixing location and dimensions of structures Fix location of inclined accesses Longer term objectives – verify geological estimates, spoil management procedure John Osborne, Joanna Stanyard (CERN-SMB-SE)

Study History Since Rome 2016 Updates to FCC CE study presented at FCC week 2016 in Rome: Single and double tunnel. Inclined access tunnel hh and ee requirements Amberg inclined access feasibility study. Design development in preparation for a Cost & Schedule estimate: New layouts assessed. Naming convention developed. Cost and Schedule study launched with two sets of Consultants: ILF Geoconsult & Synaxis. Ongoing work: Cost & Schedule study Tunnel and Shaft cross-section design. Establishing underground and surface infrastructure requirements April 2016 June 2016 August 2016 September 2016 John Osborne, Joanna Stanyard (CERN-SMB-SE) 2nd FCC Week, Rome, April 2016
