Background of the Grant Our process Our application In the 2016 grant period, each Active Learning Center grant covers the furniture, integrated technology, design, installation and post-occupancy measurement tool for one of four classroom types designed for 24-32 students. Eligible academic institutions are ones that focus primarily on formal, instructor-led learning in a designated classroom in the United States, Canada or Mexico, serving grades 6 – 12 or within a college or university. Grants are valued at $62,000, plus all of the innovation and inspiration born of active learning.

Campus Active Learning Philosophy USM instructors facilitate the creation of a student learner centered environment through creative active learning curriculum strategies that increase student and social learning, collaboration, critical thinking skills, knowledge creation, creativity, and experimentation. Our pedagogy is centered on continuous instructor to student engagement, peer to peer learning opportunities, metaliteracy, and multiple teaching modes designed to meet visual, auditory, and kinesthetic student learning styles. Instructors utilize innovative, flexible, and interactive spaces and instructional technology tools to facilitate active learning and wisdom formation and espouse a culture of assessment.
