The Supreme Court Cases that reach the Supreme Court are Justices are appointed by the president, approved by the Senate, and serve life terms. There are nine justices, one who serves as Chief Justice (currently John Roberts) Cases that reach the Supreme Court are decided by majority opinion.

Lower Federal Courts Congress was given the power to create a federal court system. The Judiciary Act of 1789 established the US Circuit and District Courts that serve the country. As with Supreme Court Justices, federal judges are appointed by the president and must be approved by the Senate.
