Work (variable distance) Section 7.5

Lifting Chains A 20 ft. chain weighing 5 lb/ft is lying coiled on the ground. How much work is required to raise one end of the chain to a height of 20 feet so that it is fully extended?

Lifting Chains Consider a 10 foot chain that weighs 2 pounds per foot hanging from a winch 10 feet above ground level. Find the work done by the winch in winding up the specified amount of chain. A) Wind up the entire chain. B) Wind up ½ of the chain. C) Wind up the entire chain attached to a 100 pound box

Pumping Fluids A cylindrical water tank 4 meters high has a radius of 2 meters. How much work is done in pumping a full tank of water out of the tank? (Water weighs 9800 newtons per cubic meter.

Pumping Fluids A conical tank 10 feet across the top and 8 feet high is completely filled to within 2 ft of the top with olive oil weighing 57 lbs per cubic foot. How much work does it take to pump the oil to the rim of the tank?

Pumping Fluids #27 A hemispherical tank of radius 6 feet is positioned so that its base is circular. How much work is required to fill the tank with water through a hole in the base if the water source is at the base?
