The Supper at Emmaus – Diego Velázquez (1622–23) The picture illustrates the gospel according to Saint Luke (24:30–31), and shows the moment at which the disciples recognize the Risen Christ ("And as He reclined at the table with them, He took bread, blessed and broke it, and handed it to them; then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him"). An early work, executed under the strong influence of Caravaggio, it seems to have been painted in 1622–23, before Velázquez left Seville for Madrid. He also shows a faint shakina instead of the promenent shakina. Also Jesus is stairing up at god. By: Ally Davis 4th Period

Diego de Velázquez Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, the most admired—perhaps the greatest—European painter who ever lived, possessed a miraculous gift for conveying a sense of truth. He gave the best of his talents to painting portraits, which capture the appearance of reality through the seemingly effortless handling of sensuous paint. Baptized June 6, 1599 – August 6, 1660) was a Spanish painter who was the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV and one of the most important painters of the Spanish Golden Age. He was an individualistic artist of the contemporary Baroque period, important as a portrait artist. In addition to numerous renditions of scenes of historical and cultural significance, he painted scores of portraits of the Spanish royal family, other notable European figures, and commoners, culminating in the production of his masterpiece Las Meninas (1656).

Infanta Maria Theresa of Spain– Diego Velázquez (1652–1653) It is considered one of the artist's best late portraits, showing its subject in a majestic pose, illuminated in a light dress against a dark background. Its seriousness and formality is added to by the two watches she carries, whilst the handkerchief in her left hand is one of the painting's highlights. To be honest is super gaudy and very done up for a very plane unattractive being. It is also a very dark toned colors for the painting compared to the light tones in his early paintings.
