Lab Practical Hints Biol 203 Practical 1

All systems include models and slides Introduction to Anatomy: approx. 25% Rat, organ systems, abdominopelvic regions, body regions and cavities Microscopic Anatomy: approx. 25% Microscope, specimen preparations, embryonic germ layers Epithelial and connective tissues Membranes Skeletal System: approx. 50% Classification by shape Axial: includes skull (foramen and sutures) Appendicular: be prepared to identify left and right Extra credit: 3 questions Remember, if it’s in the objectives it can be on the practical!

Study Tips Review your lab manual, worksheets, and the lab PowerPoints Take advantage of the Study Room Use Professor Marquart’s additional materials, including: expanded study PPTs, worksheets, review exercises, helpful websites Tissues: look at the PPTs and the pictures in your textbook and atlas concentrate on what makes each one unique Skeletal System: first learn the names of the bones then learn the markings, starting with the skull

During The Test Make sure your answer sheet matches the question number at the station Budget your time Look at the station to see how many models or microscopes there are Read the question carefully Make sure you’re answering the right question If you don’t know the answer, make an educated guess Spelling matters, but handwriting matters even more If I can’t read it, it’s wrong You won’t be able to go back at the end, so use your time wisely
