Towards an Atlas of the Political Opinions Jean-Paul PINON 1 April 2015

Our Goal Voters’ association  Vote Advice Application : http://vote.wecitizens.be A ‘wikipedia’ of the political players  Political Directory: http://directory.wecitizens.be A quality surveyor of public management An institute for citizenship education  Pedagogical tools, etc.

Vote advice applications (VAA) A VAA provides to the voters electoral orientation via matching political position of voters and parties and/or candidates. It helps voters to find the candidates with the highest political affinity. The VAA invites the user to enter in the Political Directory, where he finds well-structured information that is relevant for a voter. Popularity of VAAs www.stemwijzer.nl : 4,85 million visits in one month (2012) www.smartvote.ch : 1,1 million consultations; 84% of candidates participating (2011) The VAA is not: Rating of the candidates Voting recommendation.   Improvements compared to first generation VAAs: Selection of candidates, and not (only) the parties The VAA is linked with a political directory Each question is accompanied by a summary containing the "pros" and "cons"

The VAA produced by WeCitizens in May 2014

Political Directory The Vote Advice Application (VAA) is linked to a Political Directory. This other transparency tool is autonomous: can be consulted without VAA. Advanced search with 27 search criteria It contains answers from political players on a set of questions: we move towards an atlas of opinions.

Conclusion The transparency tools developed by WeCitizens are multilingual and easily transferable to other countries. The Vote Advice Application can be used for all types of elections, including internal elections of parties, trade unions, Chairman of a university, etc.
