Reflection A transformation in which a figure is flipped over a line, called the line of reflection Creates a mirror image of the original figure New figure is marked with primes

Reflecting Points Across Axes To reflect a figure in the x axis, take the opposite of the y coordinate. (x, y) becomes (x, -y) To reflect a figure in the y axis, take the opposite of the x coordinate. (x, y) becomes (-x, y)

Example 2 If the vertices of a triangle are A (-1,1), B (-1, 3), and C (6,3) and it’s reflected across the y axis, what are the coordinates of A′ , B′ , and C′ ?
