How to help your child The biggest single influence on your child’s SAT marks will be their reading ability. Good readers can read questions quickly, and understand what they need to do. Continue to encourage your child to read every day, looking at both stories and non-fiction. R

How you can help ? English Maths Take an interest in your child’s learning and progress. Read and discuss as many different examples of text as you can with your child. Question your child about what they are reading. Discuss the layout of text and talk about plots and characterisation. Work on the individual targets for both reading and writing that your child is working on. Complete the homework set. Take advantage of booster groups and tuition when offered. Maths Make sure your child has instant recall of all tables and associated division facts. Give them everyday problem solving situations to think about. Encourage the reading of timetables. Ensure your child attends school every day. R & L – English K - Maths
