CAPSTONE PROJECT Geographic Case Study Scenario

Humanitarian Relief Operations Conflicts & Military Operations WHY? Natural Disasters Humanitarian Relief Operations Conflicts & Military Operations Famine & Drought Emergency Disaster Response

Purpose of the Project Illustrate the Planning Necessary to Execute a Contingency Contracting Mission Apply knowledge of geography and geo-politics when conducting military contingency support operations Examine the role of the CCO in support of CONUS and OCONUS Contingency and Humanitarian or Peacekeeping Operations Apply classroom study, cultural awareness and lessons learned to a practical scenario-based exercise Apply knowledge of acquisition procedures to procure goods and services for the deployed force Practice presentation skills in a classroom environment

Sample Questions to Ask/Answer Where am I going? How will I get there? What do I need to do to prepare to go? Are there any cultural issues that need to be addressed? Who’s going with me? How long will I be there? What can the commercial market provide? How’s the banking system, can I use EFT, checks, cash? Can I use sources outside the country/ shipping costs, customs? What’s my plan to provide contracting support?

Schedule/Due Dates Papers are due close of business on the 7th day of class, typically on a Wednesday. Briefings will be conducted on the morning of the last day of class. One copy of your briefing slides should be presented to the Instructors before your group starts their presentation.
