Coping With New Teaching Methods And Ways Of Learning Use apps to create attractive slides eg. prezi .com Adding voices to the slides eg. Use of slidespeech.com, voice thread, screen cast-o-matic. Facilitators should understand that we are dealing with digital natives/ babies, thus they should be competent with the new age technologies. It’s about time that Moodle is upgraded to include the current age apps. More video broadcasting venues to be made available. Internet connectivity

4. Learning Independently The University of Fiji 4. Learning Independently Inquiry based learning should be encouraged Facilities for postgraduate studies. Teaching pedagogies should encourage this for students Provide appropriate scaffolds towards this. E.g peer mentor, student supports services

6. Different types of assessments The University of Fiji 6. Different types of assessments If it is an examinable unit then short tests should be minimized. Standard number of assessments Cut down on assignments that has smaller weighting Assessments should cater for different student needs (variety of assessment strategies)

9. Reflecting On Teaching Quality The University of Fiji 9. Reflecting On Teaching Quality Mechanism used for peer review is currently intimidating(confidentiality/ coaching/ mentoring) Instead of placing emphasis on the number of courses taught by a staff focus should also be on the number of students that particular staff teaches. The university should provide more avenues for staff to upgrade their qualification as per FHEC requirement……thus fulfilling our graduate attributes MOU between other universities for staff/ student exchange Current PhD students without supervisors will benefit from this arrangement Students get an opportunity to experience diverse environment in HE.

Cont’d E- learning facilities should be strengthened VBC – sound proof room, improve internet connectivity. Skype Moodle Wifi

11. Improving student support services The University of Fiji 11. Improving student support services Work towards building a better customer care relations with students beginning from SAS to our lecture rooms. Students should be treated with respect and dignity. Invest in recreational facilities for students and staff. Counseling services at department level or school level should be done in confidence
