How to Skim read text

Skimming You just need to get an idea of what it is about so DON’T READ EVERY WORD. ONLY READ: Title and sub-headings First & last sentences of each paragraph The very last sentence of the whole text Look at diagrams and pictures

How to TAKE GOOD NOTES

       Note taking Do not copy text – (especially from the web) Only write key points Shorten words Txt mssges wrk Use symbols & numbers       

Note taking: Use Bullet Points Use bullets points to capture key facts You can include sub-bullet points for further detail Or more bullets for further detail (another point) Use another main bullet point for your next key point

Note taking: Mind Mapping

Put main idea in the centre and leave lots of space Turn your page on the side and do a mind map in "landscape" style. With the main topic in the middle this gives lots of space for other notes to radiate out. After the first drawing of the mind map you may want to highlight things, add information or add questions.

Step by step guide Start in the centre with picture of the topic, use at least 3 colours. Use pictures, & symbols Write alone the lines Write key words in CAPITAL letters Lines from the middle picture are thicker, Lines near the outside are thinner. Use lots of colour – your own code Develop your own personal style of Mind Mapping.
